SANERI'S RESEARCH CENTRES
SANERI directs and support research in the public interest and the company solicits work from reputable service providers, either academic institutions or the private sector. A significant focus is placed on cooperation and the development of a collaborative environment.
The research centres have been created with the objective of optimising the research infrastructure, accelerating the research path and growing the pool of energy scientists. This means that the main objective of a research centre is to organise research efforts among academic institutions, specifically driving research towards commercialisation, reducing potential duplication and ensuring synergies. The focus area of these research and development centres are education, promotion of technologies product research and development and consultancy.
SANERI intends to set up six research centres viz.
- Renewable Energy Centre of Research and Development (RECORD)
- South African Centre for Carbon Capture and Storage (SACCCS)
- Centre for Energy Systems Analysis and Research (CESAR)
- Green Transport Research and Demo Centre
- Advanced Materials Research and Demo Centre
- Energy Efficiency Research and Demo Centre
Each reasearch centre will have its own Executive Committee and Technical Advisory Group. It will be project managed by SANERI but hosted at different universities to minimise duplication and reduce overheads but when needed facilities will be built.
