Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
What is LPG (LPG)
LPG is a simple hydrocarbon mixture of mainly propane and butane, and is often referred to as auto gas. It is a by-product of natural gas processing and crude oil refining. LPG is non-toxic, colourless and virtually odourless?. LPG is the third most common fuel in the world behind petrol and diesel and is the dominant alternative motor fuel in more than 38 countries.
What types of vehicles can use (LPG)
LPG can be used in light and heavy-duty vehicles. Most LPG vehicles are currently dual-fuel, large trucks and vans, though after-manufacture conversions for many vehicles are possible, and original equipment manufactures are beginning to offer more factory-ready models. Applications include cars, pick-up trucks, forklifts, transit and school buses, delivery trucks, trolleys and vans.
LPG as one of the alternatives identified by the programme is receiving so much interest from the private sector. Already there refueling stations around the country but these are operating at a very low scale. The role of the programme is to partner with the private sector to help expand these refueling stations and to promote them in order to get as many LPG converted vehicles as is possible.
