Purpose

The Hub and Spoke Programme is a centre of excellence in a specific area of energy research and development [the Hub] that co-operates with other tertiary educational institutes on a multi-lateral basis [the Spokes].

The University of Stellenbosch was awarded the Hub’s contract for Renewable and Sustainable Energy in August 2006.

The main objective of the Hub is to develop and enhance national capacity in renewable and sustainable energy in support of accelerated and shared economic growth within the area of sustainable energy. This will be achieved by building the human resource capacity, create and disseminate knowledge, and lastly to stimulate innovation and enterprise in the field of renewable and sustainable energy.
